Course Overview
Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Safety Case covers the essential aspects of safety risk management including hazard identification, risk assessment, mitigation, monitoring and measurement and continuous improvement in addition to safety case development and the importance of safety culture for airport workers. It has been created to equip airport workers with the essential knowledge and skills needed to be able to identify hazards, assess risks, and actively participate in safety management.
By understanding the proactive and reactive aspects of safety risk management, airport workers can contribute to a safer working environment and reduce the likelihood of incidents and accidents. This course will empower them to take ownership, communicate effectively, and prioritize safety in their daily work activities, ultimately enhancing safety culture and overall safety performance at the airport.
Chapter 1: Safety Risk Management
We explore the foundations of safety management, encompassing regulatory comprehension, proactive vs. reactive approaches, the significance of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), as well as the reactive nature of investigations and corrective actions, to provide essential insights necessary for a comprehensive safety mindset.
Chapter 2: Hazard Identification
We examine airport hazards and their pivotal role in safety management while delving into diverse hazard identification sources and techniques while underscoring the necessity of inclusive stakeholder participation.
Chapter 3: Risk Assessment
This section provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of risk, its types, and introduces the Risk Matrix as a powerful tool for assessing risk along with practical examples, fostering collaborative learning, and underlines the significance of the Safety Risk Profile.
Chapter 4: Mitigation, Measurement and Continuous Improvement
We delve into risk mitigation through control measures, emphasizing safety performance monitoring, engaging in practical exercises to assess mitigation effectiveness, and highlighting the pivotal role of measurement in effective risk management while promoting the concept of continuous improvement for enhancing safety performance.
Chapter 5: Safety Case
In this section, we explore the fundamental concept and purpose of a Safety Case in safety management, including the process of Safety Case development, review and identification of key stakeholders and their roles, and facilitate engaging exercises to enhance participants' understanding of the Safety Case process.
Chapter 6: Hazards and Risk for the Airport Worker
Lastly, we highlight the significance of safety culture and effective communication in hazard and risk management, identify stakeholders impacted by hazards, underscore the synergy between proactive and reactive approaches, and discuss empowerment of airport workers to take ownership and involvement in fostering a safer and more vigilant work environment.
